Georgia Highways 314-85 Collision
August 20, 2021-Fayetteville, Georgia-And now to some serious stuff. Ever since the state changed the light sequence to the traffic light at the intersection of Georgia Highways 314 and 85 in Fayetteville, Georgia, I have seen several accidents and numerous near accidents at the intersection.
I was just telling the wife a few days ago that I wanted to set up a video camera at the intersection to show how screwed up it is.
What happens is that the north bound on GA-85, all three lanes, two travel and one turn lane turn red. Many people assume that if that is happening on the northbound side, it is happening on the southbound direction also. But, it doesn't.
So, if someone is in the left, northbound turn lane, waiting for the light to change in order to make that left hand turn onto GA-314, as the light changes, they make the left hand turn, expecting the southbound traffic to stop. But it doesn't.
This video shows what nearly happens a dozen times a day here. I'm sure the state is just waiting for the intersection to reach the right body count before they fix it. In the meantime, here it is, shot from my dashcam as we approached the same intersection to make the same turn.
The video is ugly. But until GA DOT, prodded by our local citizens and political leaders, changes it, it's only going to get worse until we have the number of needed deaths to change it.
